You only have 9 posts but you might very well be onto something. I think Gooogle might be de-valuing links with what appears to be spammy anchor text. I guess that would be an effective way of combating paid links. I was thinking about that because one of my directories that dropped out of SERPs was using the anchor 'PR5' in some of it's links. But the strange thing is that I was still able to raise my rank for a very competitive keyword, even while my site name did not rank.

    @ Dave -
No doubt he is an AH.
About the topic of the thread-

I thought this post about PR/Penalty and paid links by Danny Sullivan might be of interest to many of you - I am sorry if all of you have already read it.

He is certainly an authority in the SEO field - but still I would think - much of his post is on assumptions as is the case in SEO field about G except technicalities.

I don't like that post because he mixes in fact and fiction peppered with a little myth and fear-mongering. I would like to see more reference material for all the wacky claims made in that post.

What was the article? If you are seriously questioning the generally accepted practices in the industry its got to be a good move and I am not surprised you are a bit crabby. No need to apologise. :p

    Well said Pete.
Yes Google is not everything.. Make your directory a resource for direct visitors.

Also, reinclusion request is needed for sites that are de-indexed/banned on google. (as far as I know )

    Bingo!

God I wish more people thought as clearly as you do!

No, instead they are too busy throwing out asinine terminology with a hope of guessing correctly.

    *sigh*

I agree, asking for reinclusion when you don't even know if or why you were penalized doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Thanks for the link in your signature An0n it is a great post

Re-inlcusion requests can be used for any site that has received any kind of Google penalty. I can assure you that any directories that have been dropped 40+ places for their trade names have been hit with a penalty. They have been hit with the same paid link penalty that both Text Link ads and John Chow have been hit with. I have seen these types of penalties before and they are difficult to recover from. This guy:

    http://www.davidairey.com/how-i-reversed-my-google-ranking-penalty/

Recently got hit with the same -40 or so penalty, he dropped his paid links, sent a re-inclusion request and got back his rankings.

But how do we drop our paid links?
Most of these are for advertising purposes anyway. I have over 300,000 backlinks, so that would be a major pain in the a$$ :(

It is a major pain in the ass, I have 2 site owners who I cannot get in touch with or they are just not responding, one of them I was supposed to pay two weeks ago and they still have not removed my link.

    Thanks a lot jhnrang
I will do a details study as I need to catch up on few things

That seems to be interesting read. I was of the view that re-inclusion meant for site that have been banned (removed from G index).

@Dave, don't forget to update us with your progress :)

Yeah so... get adbrite or yahoo or build more or do something else :)

True webmasters never give up ...
They just buy more domains and experiment till they get it right ;)

I have been saying this all along. I just don't want to get into a bickering match with most people on this board.

Another excellent point. I think most Directory Owners tend to forget that a directory is for providing resources based on a certain category or topic.
