Fantastico and Wordpress

Some hosting companies like Hostgator provide Wordpress install (and update) through Fantastico

For a root install (or whatever), you get WP installed as DomainName.com without [www]

So when you do try to get your domain as www . DomainName.com you are automaticaly redirected to DomainName.com (without [www])

Is it a problem on a SEO purpose, on a user/surfer point of view ... ?

it will not put any impact on SEO. whether you use WWW or non-WWW version, you stick with one format. you can however go under the WP installation settings and put WWW before the domain name if you want so that it directs to www version.

There are also wordpress plugins that will enforce either www, or non www.

As I understand - www and no www can have an impact on your backlinks and search engines can see www and non www as separate entities.

also a .htaccess permanent redirect will alleviate the issue.

    Thanks for your answers ;)

Of course, you can fix this issue in the "settings" of your WP dashboard by adding "www." to the Wordpress address (URL) and the blog address (URL)

Yes it can be an issue. However, it really is upto you. Remember, Google considers domains without www n with www two diff ones. Forwarding the domain is really not the problem you see, however, if you select a www domain forward to a non-www domain, and point all your backlinks to the www version, then you'll lose backlinks. But oh well, in my opinion one should blog freely forgetting about these pescy issues. :) best of luck.

The latest versions of wordpress do not require you to have a redirect. Once you enter your preference( in WP) , everything gets set normally.

Like all the clients of Hostgator my friend. It's a 1-click process ;)
