    Hi
What is the legal position/implications if you register a famous persons name?
For eg. if you registered www.tomcruise.com and Tom sues you, do you have to give it up?
    Thanks. :D

As far as I'm aware, you can't be sued unless you set up a site pretending to be that person. Although I've got a feeling some celebrities have still sued successfully when that's not been the case... basically, be careful with celebrity name domains!

I don't think they would mind unless you start making money out of their name and/or impersonate them.

But the 1st (making money out of their name) is what most of us would be doing anyway. :)
Hmmm...looks like that risk of legal action will always be there if one were to buy such names :)

The question to ask when about to do that sort of thing is "why?"

Answer that and you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect.
