Fake Pagerank

    Hi there,
    I have been running a website for the last 5 years. However, due to a spam attack, my hosting company deleted my whole site towards middle of last year. My pagrrank dropped to 0 from 4 as a result. Now the last month or so, I re-designed the site and is not back live again. Because of the recent PR update, I have got a PR5. But only today, and because of this forum, I found that a PR can be faked. Now I run through my site using the fakepagerank checker and the result showed that my PR is invalid and it pointed that my site is forged and it pointed to this site http://www.caltechvsmit.com which showed a PR4. Now I am confused here, I worked my socks of creating links, writing articles, etc etc to get to a PR5 only to be shown that it was faked. How can my PR is 5 when the the site it supposed to point is 4. Also, I did a backlink and majority of the backlinks shown via google showed sites that totally unrelated to my site, sites I never dealt with and not even a link to my site was shown on this site. So there you go, I am TOTALLY confused. Although I have been running this site, my knowledge of SEO and faking PR is non-existent. Any thoughts? I hope I can post a link to my site because I haven't had a chance to create my sig yet. It it not allowed, let me know and I can edit and remove. Thanks all.

    My site is www.explorationborneo.com

    Cheers,
    Walt

    Well that what it tells me...read my thread. But I didn't put the code on purpose. It's a template I got from somewhere...! Anyway, if I do it on purpose why would I forged my site to a lower PR of 4 when my PR is already 5...I would appreciate some constructive feedback!!

    pagerank is tied to specific domains...when your hosting company deleted your site....did you get to keep the domain name?

    Where did you purchase this domain name? from network solutions or from another individual?

    if your domain is foreworded to any other domain then you will get a fake pr, just check the cached page of your site, it must show the foreworded domain's page!

    get a better hosting, try godaddy etc, i mean some famous ones, other wise you will always be cheated!:)

    Finally a constructive feedback...

    Yes, I did keep the domain name and had since 2002...! When the hosting company deleted the site, the domain just pointed to a page that says webpage is not configured and I just redesigned the site and moved to another hosting company. After the deletion, my PR when from 4 to 0 which I could understand but since the last update in April, it became PR5. But I didn't fake the PR or at least not intentionally, anyway why would I I only found out about fake PR today and from this forum.

    You must a some server side redirect via htacess file, open it and check it that its not redirecting explorationborneo.com to caltechvsmit.com.

    Login to you server account via ftp, look for the .htacess file, download it and open it. Check to see if there is anything in this file and then report back.

    " IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti*

    <Limit GET POST>
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    allow from all
    </Limit>
    <Limit PUT DELETE>
    order deny,allow
    deny from all
    </Limit>
    AuthName www.explorationborneo.com
    AuthUserFile /home/xxxx/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd
    AuthGroupFile /home/xxx/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.grp "

    Not sure if there's anything that I shouldn't have shown but there you go...

    Thanks mate.

    your site www dot explorationborneo dot com was forwarded from caltechvsmit dot com before, leave the borneo site live until next PR update, and the true PR will show up

    You are maybe right! But it is weird because the caltechvsmit site is PR4 and Borneo site is PR5. If it is anything, my site should at least show 4 and not 5. It was updated from 0 to 5 in the last update end of April. I hope it stays as PR5.

    Cheers,
    Walt

    Its not here, maybe as said already this was corrected after the current update hence what you are seeing now is "old" data that should be corrected on the next update.

    backlinking caltechvsmit count 65 and borneo site count 77 that why borneo site get higher PR, I think 77 was the collection of caltechvsmit backlinking and true borneo site backlinking (12), so when the true PR show up, borneo site should have PR 3 or less, depend on the link quality

    Cheers mate. I hope it will be more than that in the next update but who knows. If you check my Yahoo backlinks, I have quite a number of backlinks with high PR but google must have dropped them when the site was deleted. I had a nice website before, with a good traffic and a list subscribers (four figures) to my newsletter and those spammers had a field day with my guessbook etc. This will teach me a lesson to update my email address with my hosting company and to constanly backup my site.
    Thanks again.
