I won 2 auctions on ebay for domain names with supposed Page Rank 4/6. I paid for one and haven't for the other. After the auction, I learned a little about page rank and how it can be faked. I used SEM FAQ's fake page rank checker and they came up fake. Couple questions: 1. How reliable/authoritative is this determination? 2. If this isn't reliable, is there a way to determine fake PR with certainty? 3. Is it possible to fake PR for a domain parked at Sedo? 4. Anybody got any tips, tricks, or advice? Rhanks!
Yeah, actually checked it a couple places - SEOlogs says it's fake, too. I didn't even know page rank could be faked until after I won the auctions. Working on getting my money back. Thanks.
A good 90% of high PR domains on Ebay are fake, they usually use a link to PR checkers that don't check for forged PR like SeoChat etc along with their claims. It makes me sick to think how many buyers these people scam, hope you get a refund.
1. How reliable/authoritative is this determination?----- u can be 100% certain of a fake PR 2. If this isn't reliable, is there a way to determine fake PR with certainty?------- type the domain name in Google search and it will show the first result from some other domain. this proves that the domain has fake PR 3. Is it possible to fake PR for a domain parked at Sedo?--- u can get a Fake PR and then park it on sedo. the PR update usually takes place in 3 months so ur domain retains that PR for that time. 4. Anybody got any tips, tricks, or advice?---------- i told u the above ones
have it checked for multiple datacenters, - www.digpagerank.net should give you some ideas if its fake or real
Thanks, folks. Luckily, I never paid for the 'PR6' domain, which would have put me out quite a bit more money than the 'PR4', which I did pay for. Luckily I've got a good paypal/ebay rating, so hopefully that helps me, but I have no idea how equipped/knowledgeable ebay is in dealing with these types of things... ...we shall see. Thanks.
Well, bad juju - paypal denied the claim because it doesn't fall within their buyer protection guidelines. When I re-read them, I discovered 'intangible' items (like a domain name, grr) are not covered. The guy is back to selling more domains...
PR can be faked if you use sneaky 302 redirects. Google believes that the domain is a part of another domain and it gives it that same PR.
