Fake iTraders being Given

Well maybe it's a sign of the times, but a few days back I posted a list of some free Facebook vouchers (post). They were given out for free and listed in the post itself (no optins/downloads/etc).

The user 'luken1983' gave me negative iTrader for that post, even though we had never exchanged money or even contacted each other (not even in the thread itself). As you already know, itrader is meant for service/product exchanges, not to rate forum posts - he should have used the rep system if he felt so strongly about the post.

Personally i think it's an abuse of the itrader system. And the user is really new, there should be a restriction that only people who've been on the forum for like 1 or 2 months can exchange itrader.

You have just invited an infraction for posting in the wrong section, dunno about the itrader.

What are you talking Helvetii, the only one who could now get infra is you lol.

Yeah, I agree with you Slincon, there should be rules about it, like - I give someone negative for a reason and he does oposite without a reason.

Do you usually "lol" at stupid things you have no idea about? :)

Maybe you should go read the rules. The OP should have posted his vouchers thread in the Freebies section which he didn't.

It's a gray area Helvetii, free items can still be posted in market sections so long as they're relevant. You'll notice numerous services being offered for free outside of the free section - it's only when you attach a price tag to that product or service that it becomes up for debate - at least from how I interpreted the rules.

Anyways the main issue here is about false itraders. When no cash is being exchanged or even when no contact has been exchanged, users should only use rep to evaluate a post. Using itraders when no exchange has happened is a violation of DP's market rules.

Well, considering anything free should have gone in the Freebies section anyway... and if you posted it in the right place, they wouldn't have been able to give you iTrader anyway.

Yep pretty simple, free stuff you always post in the freebies. You can post a free offer when it's ATTACHED to a paid service etc, like for example, free domain name _with_ purchase of our package... or what have you... Point is if money isn't going to exchange hands from a deal, or properties, or measurable work (digital files, articles, software, time on a server, whatever) then it just doesn't go in the marketplace unless it's under freebies.

I do also think there should be a restriction on the iTrader for the first... I dunno... would be nice if it was a month I guess? They can still earn rep as a starting point instead... mentioning this to new users might be good as well, as I fear it's been fading, the rep system and members use of it.

    Cheers.

Oh, thanks for reminding me about that. I've been meaning to disable new user's ability to give iTrader. It's now done.

Posting in the wrong section usually gets the thread deleted or moved and the user receives an infraction.
As you have confirmed that it was posted in the wrong section, you know that the iTrader shouldn’t have been applied so why not remove it?

    Thanks Brian

    Sweet! Thanks!

Hey, yeah... Is there going to be anything at all going on to allow any kind of review of received iTrader, moderation, investigation, fixing of stuff that shouldn't really be, or anything?

So can the itrader be removed, since it was wrongfully given (I think we can all agree on this considering 1) it's a new member and 2) there was no transaction). In retrospect, yes it probably should have been posted in the freebies section (if we're going by pricing and not relevance to category section).

I figure Shawn has acknowledged that this seems to be a problem amongst newer members giving out itrader improperly, and now that they can no longer do it - is there any chance of having it removed? lol I'm almost resigned to believe that it's not going to be removed - too bad there's no way to link it to this post or something

You know, there's button to report bad iTraders?
Use that first and if you're lucky, mods will remove that if there are enough reasons to do so.

@Shawn Few months back I had mad a suggestion to solve this problem of unjust/fake itraders, all members who posted, supported it, but never heard from you; http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1522244
