Is it a good or bad idea to make the display URL in a adwords ad fake (keyword loaded) or have a working URL?

Good tips..I should have gave an example of what I was asking:

site.com/keyword (not actually landing page URL)

    or

site.com/landing page (actually landing page URL)

I have been using the keyword version but I was reading a book that said not to use fake URL's in the display.

They have been up for 6 months. I'm not misleading searchers, just trying to get the keyword to bold again in the ad. The keyword is relevant to the search and product or it would be a waste of money on my part.

as long as the actual url is contained in the display URL then i dont see it being a problem its when the display url is completely different to the target URL that the issues occur.

It won't cause you any problems - I've been using this approach on a number of the campaigns that I manage.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The only way to find out is to test the two options in different adverts.

What always seems to work is to capitalise each word in the display URL.

All of my ads are like that, and I have had NO PROBLEMS.

Considering a lot of my actual urls go quite deep, the entire thing could not be displayed anyways. That would be silly if they disproved ads for having "neat" display URLs. I'd probably close my account if they did.

I agree, I noticed an improvement once I started doing that.
