Fair rate per sale for affiliate members?

Posting this to get some feedback. Have a digital product Im selling and looking to get some affiliates onboard to promote the product. Sells for $150 USD and has free newsletters which I update daily and customers who purchase the product also continue to watch (so there is daily work I need to do to keep the newsletter updated etc). Payouts would be whenever the affiliate wanted to check out (no limit of how many times per month etc)Im just posting this to get some kind of feedback on what people would consider "fair" as Ive seen some very low and high affiliate rates offered for per sale. Obviously too low and no-one would bother promoting it, but too high isnt worth my time as I do need to do daily work and not sure of the kind of sales may be possible. Looking for a middle ground so any feedback would be appreciated.

The final answer is going to be determined by the conversion rate. Low conversion you have to pay more.

I would guess no less than 10% and no more than 30% of retail.

If it is through CB or private program be sure to let me know about it. If it fits any sites I might go with you.

I have to say the fair rate in my opinion is around 10-15% of the product current price. Anyway, it also depends on what is your product is all about?

Thanks for the replies guys. Very good point Colbyt about the conversion rate, thanks for mentioning that. syia its about trading online. I am looking at CB but also prefer to do direct/private as I think it may help get some good feedback from affiliates for changes/comments etc. Thanks again and any other criticism is gladly welcomed.

If you want to run your own program and do not have the software.

One of the better know affiliates management programs out there will give you a limited (250 users) set of scripts. They are hoping you will upgrade later.

I can not recall the name right now.

For digital products I look for no less than 50%. You could always try starting low and increase commission according to the amount of affiliates you manage to obtain.

It depends on your product. In video games a typical rate seems to be around 30-50%, but I would recommend throwing some major incentive.

How about offering a lower percentage (like 10%) typically, and then give full 100% for after every 3 sales? That way you could increase your own sales about $270, and giving affiliate a fair $180 percent, which is basically close to 35%, but sounds more interesting since getting "$150" from one sale is a really good motivator to push those couple of sales to reach that big pot.

No offense to anyone here but if you are accepting anything less than 50% on a digital product then you are selling yourself short. If you are getting paid 10% to 15% I would be searching high and low for a replacement to that sponsor.

    Cheers

no serious affiliate marketer would bother to promote it for less than 50%, maybe even 75%.. why would they?

and you may be the creator of the product but they will be doing all the work to bring in the traffic. also you'll be leveraging the efforts of hundreds, maybe thousands of people, so that's gonna worth the time you'll spend..
