I’ve been very critical in the past about some of the tactics at DMOZ. I still believe that some editors don’t do their job in the right way. With that said, an editor recently approved my site after turning it down two different times before. When I first submitted the site it was pretty new and didn’t have that much content to offer. After a few months of being a little angry that my site wasn’t approved I emailed the editor of that category and said that I had submitted a site several months before and it had not been approved. I also told this editor that my site was pretty new when it was first submitted and that I had tried to improve the content over the past seven or eight months since I first submitted it. I asked him to please take a look again and reconsider his first decision. To my surprise, this man replied to my email and that site is now included in the DMOZ directory. I appreciate the fact that he not only listed that site, but took the time to reply and complement me on how much better the site looked than when he first visited it over six months ago. At least this guy took the time to review a site which he had declined before and maybe there are others that will do the same if a web site continues to improve its content over a period of months and years. I’m sure there are some bad editors, but there are some good ones out there, too and I just wanted to point that out. While I still think the whole approval system at DMOZ needs to be monitered more closely; when I see something positive I think it would be wrong to keep that information to myself while I criticize the stuff which might need to be fixed. This one person showed me that there are some good folks at DMOZ.
Maybe so, Minstrel. However, I'm glad I found that one good person. I'm sure there are others out there too. However, they might not show up that much to defend themselves. I just wanted to point out this one guy who was fair to me!
In a coal mine you do come across a few diamonds if you are lucky enough Anywayz Congratulations on ur DMOZ inclusion and one more free backlink to your website
I've reviewed the same site submitted 6 or 7 times before finally listing it when it improved sufficiently. This is entirely normal - editors do check resubmitted sites every time for improvement. Not to do so risks rejecting a site that has become listable and a heavy slap for doing so without due cause. What markhutch describes happens, minus the email reply which is rare, thousands of times every month.
