I believe 5000 is the limit. And it's not a crime to add friends but it's apparantely a "facebook crime" if you add people you don't know. You won't be banned permanently, first they will give you a 3 day ban from adding friends and if you continue doing it, the ban will be extended to 5, 7, 14 and eventually your account will be banned if you continue doing it. Lol.
