Anybody know if there is any advertising power in owning big groups? I have a group i made 3 days ago and its blown up to 1.2k members. I know spamming web addresses would work for a sort time but would it promote my PR if i dont necessarily have the hyperlink but only the text?

    LOL.

I don't like spam either but it is a necessary part of the internet. If we didn't have spyware, adware, email spam, automated tools, etc. then there would be no one on the other side designing tools and fixes to prevent it. There would be not as much work for computer technicians. I could keep going but you get the point.

Spam(and other evils) provide lots of jobs but more importantly, it forces both sides to be creative. I don't think the internet would be nearly as interesting if it was so clean cut and nothing "bad" or "borderline" went on.

I second that. don't turn it into some damn myspace.

I'm so glad I can filter out all the crap from my network and only allow college people to add me/find me as a friend. I hate myspace adn everything about it, but facebook is a good way to connect with HS/College classmates yo havent seen or lost contact with and for himto start spamming is stupid.

And on a side note, none of the links will increase your PR because the search engines can't get to them. You need to login everywhere on facebook to do anything....

    And search engines can't login.

    Look:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:facebook.com&btnG=Google+Search

Only 22,000 pages indexed in a site with hundrends of thousands of students.

    Yep.

And facebook "notes" don't have the same spam potential of myspace bulletins :D

Like lordmenace, I like to keep facebook a little more private.

Well, that is exacly what I am saying.

It gets cleaned up doesn't it? A lot of people that don't have other skills get jobs because of it. The money has to come from taxes and things like that, which is the downside but I didn't say it was a good thing. It's more like a neutral thing. There are good and bads to things like spyware, adware, spam, littering...

I guess I'm just trying to be optimistic, it's healthy to look at the bright side of things.

Just finally revisted that site and its potential.

I wrote a post about it back in April:

    http://www.aaronsideas.com/the-face-book/

Seems traffic doubled since then and the competition for the keyword went up 34234%

As bad as it sounds, I personally think it comes down to.. If i don't do it the next person will. I don't agree with spam and I do my myspace promotions with respect. I only send one every few days if that, most of the time announcing a new addition to my site or something about one of my other sites. And it is always accurate and descriptive. It isn't like some people will type OMG CHECK THIS OUT RIGHT AWAY and post the bulletin 10 times in a row.

Actually I don't even get that much traffic from it. I use it more in the hopes that someone will use one of my codes thus putting a link to my site on their profile for others to see to get the code at my site. Sometimes I put the code textboxes right in the bulletin. I lose a couple visitors but may gain a lot more if a few people use my codes.
