Facebook tops $50 billion

This past tuesday, MySpace announced it will fire half of its employees. Facebook operates in more than 100 languages and is now said to be worth more than $50 billion! Why has Facebook succeeded and MySpace has not?

It's because of the design simplicity and they targeted almost every country one by one compared to MySpace who've focused more on the US and took time before they even thought that they needed other market outside the US.

Myspace didn't targeted on most social networking countries like India and Brazil.
Orkut succeeded once because of these countries and now Facebook is following the same path with regional languages and more additions.

Though before they planned to market it on a certain country, they studied it first so they'll have an idea on how many subscribe can they have. That's based from the movie "The Social Network". They started in a certain university in the US and then market it on another university then targeted a university in Europe and the rest is history now. Facebook doesn't even need to market themselves already since word of mouth is already on their side.

 

Facebook has more features while myspace have only a few..

 

Because facebook is very compact and everything is in it already. It's not just for getting friends or communicate your friends but it binds family. The new features are endless making it more interesting everyday.

Myspace was shit because it looked and was shit. I remember trying it long time ago and it was so awful, as if it was designed by couple of 16 year old gangsters.

Many reasons; MySpace was extremely confusing, it was very colorful and fun, but in terms of actually knowing where to go and what you could do, it wasn't as clean-cut as Facebook. Also, Facebook got a big boost with a $500k VC in at the beginning.

 

I'm waiting for Google's socialnetwork which they are launching this year!
