I am looking forward to seeing the movie and learning more about the creation, growth, and legal disputes behind Facebook. As someone else in this thread said - we're webmasters...we should make a point to see it.

Maybe I'll learn something about our industry... maybe I'll just be entertained with a good documentary... either way, I'll be at the theater in October.

As to the question of - "How successful?" I don't think it'll be a national blockbuster. Documentaries - even great ones - seldom are.

And even though I think the movie will be great, please note that the official website design leaves a LOT to be desired: http://www.thesocialnetwork-movie.com

The movie has potential to be highest grossing movie ever. If only they can control the piracy black market end of it. Think about the free advertising they have to constantly promote to 500 million members!

I think I will go see it just to see how good the story is. Not sure how good it will be with Justin Timberlake though.

The movie isn't a documentary. It is a Hollywood produced movie to get people in the theaters. With the cast of Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg, its aimed at the 18-24 crowd that makes up the largest part of the 500 million users on Facebook. The story is based on a fictionalized version. Honestly, you won't learn more about how Facebook was created than whats already out there. What you will get from the film, or any film, is feelings, emotions, and signs about human behavior.

Its hyped up too much. Its comparing itself with Citizen Kane? Please. The movie is largely a work of fiction. Don't worry, its going to get hammered with its critics and be forgotten at the Oscars :)

It won't be interesting, cuz it's not about facebook, but his owner and his friend, and their conflict. One says: "It's my idea", another : "No it's not yours! My contribution to this project is valuable! Let's go to the court!"

It's 100% crap. I'll wait for dvd and watch this movie for free rather than go to cinema and pay for a ticket to enrich Facebook.

For a start its Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, Sports Night, Studio 60 etc) so its going to be good. Its kind of about facebook, therefore around about 500million people should be slightly interested! And it looks great! Although I'm sure I am going to see it partly because of JT I'm still very excited!

If you belong to business and want to understand how it booms go read a book or learn how these guys did it. A Hollywood produced movie is doing nothing more but selling entertainment/tickets. If you are hoping to use the film as a documentary or any type of learning experience, you are greatly misguided little sheep.

I think that this movie (no matter how Zuckerberg is depicted) is the ultimate marketing tool for facebook. Zuckerberg and Co. couldn't have had a better tool for promoting facebook. Zuckerberg is certainly a marketing genius who can teach us a thing or two about promoting a website. I'm impressed!
