Where should a hair salon start their social media presence? Facebook or Pinterest? Pin has more women, but facebook has more people.
I would build my presence on Facebook first and then work on building my pinterest following. It is easier to convert Facebook fans to pinterest but if you have a hair salon you might want to think about doing an independent "lifestyle" blog. They're easy to do on sites like blogger.com and you can get a huge following on them.
For a Salon, why not take photos, or pin photos about what you have to offer. Like the new hair trends for the season, link your facebook and pinterest and everything else follows. Remember that photos can attract more people than just simple posts
Use facebook, Pinterest, twitter. Use them all, I know it will take some time but it is worth it. There is a saying: "The roots of learning/working are bitter, but the fruits are sweet."
Use none of the above for your social media strategy. Use 100% your own website because the only way they'll really seek you out on social media and actually listen to what you have to publish is when you're a celebrity. Maybe you can get a small kick back of fans if you do a celbs hair but really when I use social media I'm looking for what I want and rarely if ever do I think of a local businesses. Local business is local so I can just go to the place I want to do business with. On the other hand I want to hear what Kobe Bryant says about the latest Laker game since he's in LA or traveling the country playing basketball. When I'm on Facebook and people only post about their business I know that they have good intentions but I just don't care. I block these posts because I just want to talk to my friends not be sold their business. When you post about your business ad nauseam you betray the friendship of the person because you don't sell your business to them when you're face to face. I know my advice is contrary to popular belief so read what Seth Godin the best marketer in the world has to say about Social Media.
I would use both of them. You should use all the tools available out there to market your business. Don't overlook any technique you can use to grow your business. All the best. Gianni.
