I guess there is a huge competitive war going between google as well as facebook Google trying to copy facebook likes system by introducing the +1 and now facebook trying to integrate with big brands in computer hardware to get a mark of their own. The title of the thread and article are misleading, facebook wants custom designed servers, not home computers. By eliminating the overhead that a lot of servers run, hopefully the server hardware requirements and power usage will go down. The title of the article and thread should be something more like "facebook wants a say in web server hardware", or something like "facebook wants a say in web server design"
