Faccebook is now open to the public. No need for a uni email address or an approved company email address. -its open to everyone now. Now we'll see if they fight spam better than myspace.
Very interesting... My niece (who just turned 21) was staying with us this summer and she was totally obsessed with her FaceBook. She checked it at least 3 times a day, I've never seen anything quite like it. I ragged on her all the time about it. I asked her a couple times if she ever saw anything being promoted there or if any of her friends ever tried to push links through groups or whatever and she said not really. She primarily used it to type elaborate messages such as "Hey what's up?" and look at the latest drunken photos of her friends. Still this is the first I heard of it opening to the public. I definitely like the look of the site more than MySpace... It's a lot cleaner looking.
I think what makes the site so 'clean looking' is that you cannot change the look of your page. That will keep some people away from the site that want to have those horrible looking layouts.
I better go check it out. So mafia, are you saying that they cant add glitter and things to thier page???
Oh no, people cant make crazy bright yellow backgrounds with white text anymore? Or translucent tables over a background that makes text really fun to read? I'm joining facebook now.
haha i hate the sites you cant read, but there are some nice layouts out there....I guess my site wont work on them....
some people do have nice layouts that arnt hard to read, but most profiles are just ridiculous. and as catchy as editable profiles are, this is the information age and hopefully people will realise that a streamlined site will be easier to use and faster to navigate. I honestly have spent 60-90 seconds just trying to find where someone moved the "leave comment" link to. oh, and nothing pisses me off more than the fact that peple still think tom single handidly built the website and that those little messages you get from him are really from him, and that he still works on the site. "Oh hey guys, its TOM, jsut went and got a new aston martin, we sold the site for 6 trillion dollars, suck I only cleared about a trillion after the 2 other guys got their share and taxes...., anyways i was updating something and messed up, OOPS, well give me like 20 minutes and Ill have the 5 thousand servers back online in a jiffy, love you guys"
I think this is a bad move on the part of Facebook...first the mini-feed, now this ; they've already pissed off a lot of college students
Been playin around with facebook for a few days now and it has some pretty neat features - features that i could see how teenagers would love and spend hours playing with...such as you can label each person in a photo and facebook texts your phone with messages and such. I dont really have time for that stuff but i can see how college kids would get into that stuff.
Yeah, the news feed was a big mistake. Apparently, for the first few hours that it was live it showed everyone who had looked at your profile, but they quickly scrapped that idea
bad move? Have you checked out their traffic increase lately? Also, facebook can do this because currently there are no alternatives! Sure they have pissed a few students, but what are they going to do? Are they actually going to cancel their membership and go somewhere else? Nope
Yeah, but the news feed was the first time that Zuckerberg made such a big mistake that he personally apologized
