Here is another point that confuses me. A backlink is supposed to give you 50% of the pages PageRank if it links to your site, Facebook as a very high PageRank but obviously doesn't give much for a link, so how does this work? Is it worth getting a lot of links from Facebook? Does this increase your PageRank or is it just used for getting actual traffic from Facebook? Peace
facebook and twitter link should increase your web traffic but it will not help you to increase your PR Because Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, and so on are NoFollow. While all of these networks are nofollow, they do provide a lot of other benefits, including making social connections and building an online presence and reputation.
If you use Firefox you can apply an add on called "Quirk SearchStatus" that will show you if a site is no-follow or not. This may help you decide where to place your back-links.
Dude. You must be trollin'. Where the hell did you read that a backlink is supposed to give you 50% of the page's PR?
It happens only when your backlink is dofollow.. Facebook links are nofollow. So, You will not get PR Credit. You can get traffic.
Social network sites are nofollow. If your promoting your site to various social network sites like facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. it will give you traffic but not PR. If you want your site to gain high PR, link building is what you should do like social bookmarking, directory submission, article submission, forums, blogs.
those are nofollow links will not help you to get PR with that backlinks, Networking sites will only help you to get branding & getting direct traffic on your site.
