Facebook Likes - Confused

I've read that the number of Facebooks likes can affect SEO. However, I'm not sure:

1 does this refer to the number of likes for each individual post

    OR

2 the number of likes for a page

On a Facebook page for another company, I can see in the left hand column "18 People Like This" - what does this refer to? And how do people like it?

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

I cannot see any way to like the company's page (as opposed to each individual post) - is there one?

Google is definitely not using the number of Likes as a direct ranking factor. That is simply too easy to manipulate. Instead I suspect they look at social media presence overall. If a site seems popular in social media, I could see it getting a slight rankings boost. The same goes for a site with very little social media presence....they might drop the rankings of such a site slightly. Of course since Google has their own social network, google + count would likely be more important. Also, it would make sense for them to compare the social media presence of competitors. In some niches, it just doesn't make sense to focus on social media.

If you have made a Facebook page to promote your products and services online , then you are on to a good thing. In Facebook fan page, the more likes you have, the better since this only means that a lot of people are interested in you. This will boost social media interaction and will definitely give you traffic to your site.

Likes do not affect the seo of the fan page. Just like websites have content on it is very helpful. Having likes are just for credibility, The right content and keywords will ensure a better SEO for a FB page

Facebook page likes not count by search engine, but more like of your page mean your links on page share to more people and links on your page count by search engine.........
