Well Its not a trick.. its not an application.

facebook themselves are showing the recent visitors.

5 days back I met one of my very old friend whom I met around 4-5 years back in my Mathematics coaching. Till now I have never seen him on Facebook but 3 days back suddenly in my "People you may know" section on my FB Home Page my friend's name came. I was high surprised how come Facebook know about this ? We have got no mutual friend and still Facebook finds it out..

My doubt was then 100% clear when I called him and ask him did he visited my profile. he got shocked and said ya he searched me the day we met and how come I know.

To test it more yesterday I asked one of my Office friend who was not in my friend list to open facebook from my office itself and ask him to visit my profile twice.

To my surprise just an hour back I can find him too in my "People You may Know" list.

So well People you may know are no one but those who have visited your profile.

Those people whom you are sharing your many mutual friends are given high priority to enter your People You may Know List.

I am sure this Information would be highly useful.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Focequartz

Perhaps I can't agree with you.

"People you may know" list the friends which are related to your account profile. I tried to create a new FB account, there are no "people you may know" list on the right side of my account. Then I ask my friend to visit my new account, still no "people you may know" list. But after I filled some information for the account, such as College,High School..them there are a list of friends shows in the "you may know" list. Check one of friend, it also comes from the same high school with my account.

That's my testing experience. If you have any other interests, welcome to share with us. :D

Well I have mentioned my experience in the very first post how a person with whom i do not have any mutual friends 's name appears in "people you may know" When I asked him, he himself told me that he visited my profile 2 days back..

Same case I tested with my office friend too. Well thats my testing experience . Which is quite true

there are many people on FB with whom I am having 50+ mutual friends and they were in my college but not my friends, why didn't their name ever reflect on my "People you may know" List.

I have observed many things before making this thread.
I posted what I felt, and what I feel is the possibility.

Well Views are invited .... lets discuss on this more if there are any contradictions

Well, I think we can't say all the recent visitors will be showed in the "You may know" list, and also can't say all the friends in the "you may know" list are recent visitors.

My personal opinion is facebook choose some ppl who have related information with the account by random (there are too many related accounts with it, facebook can't show all the friends in this list). But if the recent visitors have some related information with this account, it may be also in the "you may know" list. Have related information with the accounts, that's why there are lots of marketers want to add friends for his accounts from "People you may know" list.

So what about your thoughts? Glad to discuss this problem with you. :D

IMHO, I think FB does show who visited your profile recently in a general search with just one or 2 letters, if they are not on your friends list. There is a caveat. You must have visited their profile at a time as well. I know that if I visit someones page right before the search, if I just press one letter , either first or last name , their name appears first. I discipline myself , not to check their profile for a while. When I do this, I will notice even a couple months later or longer, their name appears first many times with the first letter. Again this is my opinion and I could be wrong. Do not think I am though.

in my opinion both the things are right.of course facebook is not keeping eye on the people who are visiting our profile.but facebook is helping us and collecting data like our mutual friends and friends from same school and collages.so we can easily find them.and keep in touch with them.:)

I dont think all page visitors will come up in your "people you may know". You have to have some things else in common with those people, city, highschool, work, places etc.. Also if someone visits your site too many times, then his/her name might pop up in the list.

I just signed up to the forum for this... haha :)

I was just feeling a bit down, so I went on my Facebook timeline, and what's the first thing I see?
My Ex... (She ghosted a few months back after I booked a flight to visit her...)

So yeah I felt even more angry so I blasted some Punk on full volume... lol

    Now to the weird thing:
She never used Facebook before. She had an account, but no pictures etc, I never actually clicked on it.
The profile that was suggested had a new & recent profile picture, friends and all that.
We live far away from each other, so no common connections/friends etc.

So that leaves me to believe that it actually works like this...

At least I hope so, I mean, that'd be kinda awesome, not gonna lie

I'am with the same view that facebook is displaying all the people who are visiting user's profile in the 'you may know' functionality. There are peoples whom we are not connected at all and not have any mutual Friends still they got appear and even user also don't have ever visited those peoples profile still they got appear in user's 'you may know' functionality.Other case may appear like the person name appears in the list whom user knows but the user never visited him/her profile, in such case if facebook can also able to mention what is the common point between two, the user and these peoples, then i can believe. How come it is happening.....please tell

I am sure there must be some connection of you with that person. Either his information in "about me" "intro" section would be similar OR a friend of friend as a mutual friend (which I think you denied) OR him and you must have interacted in some other social media site OR as you mentioned he visited your profile page. And if the reason is, the last option, then I am afraid, any stalker can also follow us on FB and will easily end up in our "people you may know" list. I believe we can also check by ourselves, who visited our profile page, by checking the source code of our profile page on FB. This means that FB doesnot leave any stone unturned to get random people in our list, be it from anywhere. It can be good as well as dangerous.

I don't think that's a big problem. For me, it's okay if they visit your account but just "VISIT" not hacked your account.

I've been doing a lot of thinking on this topic too. I'm almost positive that it's a combination of people that you truly may know and then people that have clicked on your profile recently. For example there's this girl I know and we're both nervous as hell around each other and we both seem to like each other. I've noticed that her sister and two of her other friends also have shown up in my people you may know list, and I share absolutely no friends with them and have never met them in my life. Keep in mind me and this girl aren't friends on FB, we're both too shy to add each other, so it's not like her sister and those friends are showing up due to a mutual friend thing. Also I've noticed that on your phone there are two different people you may know lists. There's one that you click on and it shows them, which also may/may not include people that have clicked on you, which I'm sure they are because like I said people I don't know show up in it. Then there's another list that will pop up with people you may know as you're scrolling through your feed. This one shows a different order and I think that list includes the people that have truly clicked on your profile very recently as opposed to the list that you can just click on to view PYMK. On the computer there's a very similar situation going on, there's a list you can click on to see PYMK which is the same as the list I'll click on in my phone, it's the same order, but then on the right hand side of your screen there's another list, which I'm attributing as being the same as the pymk list when scrolling through your feed on your phone. Except when viewing this list I'll notice that the list will update itself in real time every few minutes, updating only the first 3-4 people, the others stay the same, without refreshing the page, and low and behold some of the people that pop up are people I don't know at all. And I was thinking that maybe within those last few minutes that person had clicked on my profile recently and that's why the list changed in real time. It's really weird.

huh I doubt you can see " Who " visit your profile?

UNLESS you are preferring those people you add under your friends ?
