You should think of Facebook as a traffic source rather than a marketing platform. Facebook is social by design so selling on Facebook may have mixed results. It's better to transition your fans to your website from Facebook.
The way to make money on FB is by sending the traffic through FB ads to your FB page and have them opt in for something free then build up your list. Then you can start marketing to them, but don't overdo at first and give them some good content as well. As stated above create fan pages and then send visitors to those pages. Set up your autoresponder and capture the names and email addresses and follow up with good content before trying to sell.
