Facebook groups vs fan pages

I have an arcade game site that has several old atari games that I consider to be classics. The site does well from a google search perspective but I'm wondering if I could get more exposure by linking to the site in facebook.

Basically, I'm wondering which is the better way to go, create a group or create a page?

Also, when I do a search and view the groups related to my search that come up, how does facebook decide what order to put the groups in? They always show 3 groups then give you a link to click to see all the groups. How do you make it to the top? I thought maybe by number of members but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    Any insites appreciated! :)

Personally a group page is much better IMO though i dont understand the big diffrent coz after all to join a group you have to choose the option become a fan

The pro's of facebook groups include messaging to the inbox, that is the way to communicate to the members.
The pro's of facebook pages include much faster growing and status updates.

I choose facebook pages, that is just me tho.

Groups are typically started by "customers" while Fan Pages are started by the "vendor" - in this case, you'd be better off with a Fan Page.

fan pages look more professional and still allow you to have interactions with the users

You should do both. Make a fan page for the site, as the site owner. Make a group called "I love to play the Atari Classics" that will have a link to your site. That way you get the best of both worlds. The group has a chance of going viral while the fan page doesn't really.

Rustyroof, a page has a much higher chance of going viral than the group.

Not in this instance. I think that people have a more nostalgic feeling about Atari games and would be more apt to join a Group of like minded individuals. I just don't see people getting so excited about a website that they just have to become a fan of it and tell others about it.

Perhaps you have not seen the domino effect of pages recently, if so i advise you to notice it.

Pages have statistics you can use to track your members, but groups dont, they more for social.

This guy has a classic Atari games website. Many people grew up playing these games so it strikes a note in their soul. They would be more likely to join a group of people who want to sit around and reminisce about the good ol days of Joust and then find out that they can play these games at his site. Which do you think people would rather have in their profile: "I'm a fan of AtariClassicGames.com" or "I'm in the 'Remember all the Cool Classic Atari Games We Used to Play?' group"
