I prefer Fan pages, since first of all, anything you write on your fan page goes as a Feed to all of your fans' and then, if they like it or comment on it, then it goes to his friends as a feed too ! .... So, it spreads virally ..... Plus, you can customize it , and have an option of sending Email updates too
I've been told recently that all things being equal, Groups are better than Fan pages. Those above who keep mentioning 5000 fans - how many regular people are going to have more than 5000 fans - extremely few. Fan pages have very limited parameters as I've recently found at - strangely unuserfriendly for business. I'm in the process of switching over to a Group.
well i have both a fan page and group page and i am a administrator of several music related groups on facebook personally fan pages are just incase you got more then the limit facebook has for friends requests, i feel that if you do not have a business or something worth wild why create a fan page? i dont think you can possibly have over 1,000 + family members or personal friends. (well you might but) the reason fan pages were created is for people who do business or have a business and have 1 too many friends and most of them they do not know. as for groups that is good if you have a website or business since everyone in your group is either apart of your site or business and you can keep them informed with updates, new features, special offers and other things. I like groups more then fan pages, since you can also enable other group admins and also they can invite there network of friends to the group so more reputation and makes your company or business more stable when there is a lot of people in your group.
There are far more advantages with fan pages. The first being anonymity. When you post to a group that you created, your post shows your real identity. When you post to your fan page, your identity is the fan page itself. Also, the option to advertise to your fan page's friends is huge. Their friends will see an ad that is endorsed by their buddy. You can't ask for a stronger endorsement than that! Do a little research and find out the pros and cons of each. You will be surprised.
Yes, thanks for all the valuable comments on OP. I think I am going to start some Fanpages and see how that compares to the Groups.
Really? Ok, here it is, step by step: 1. Go to www.google.com 2. Type in: "how to create a fan page" 3. Read the various listings that come up 4. Implement what you have learned It's the same thing in every category... it's like this site attracts people that don't know what a search engine is!
