Social networking sites such as facebook are going to be very important in SEO terms in the near future, espiecially facebook as it is such a high authority site
I personally like pages. As a beginner, it's difficult to understand what the difference is between a FB page & a group, since both have the same exact features. Just remember that groups will be more difficult as they are equivalent to starting a forum website, which are insanely hard to get members for. You also have to upkeep these things on a regular basis so that they stay at the top of the group list on member profiles.
Both are cool, depends on what are you up to, or what you want from it. in a fan page you can't send a notification message to all the fans/members btw.
Fanpages are great for building a list of interested prospects right on the facebook platform (if you have no auto-responder) Also great for monetizing with Amazon and CPA offers etc... I love the email feature in groups but sometime gets annoying if you don`t set your settings to block it lol Also groups are great for building relationships with your market place.
i will go with pages myself,however if you have a huge group or even an event that is still great for geting traffic,but if you just wanna start a new one go with a page
