Facebook Fan Page Problem

I added a Facebook "like" button to my website about three weeks ago. I thought a fan page would be automatically created for me in the process of creating the "like" button, but I was wrong - no fan page was created. Since I added the "like" button to my site, I've gotten 48 "likes." I'm trying to figure out how to create a fan page now without losing the "likes" I already have.

I've scoured Facebook's help pages but all the information I find there is to create a new fan page with new "like" button. I created a new fan page but couldn't figure out how to connect it to my existing "like" button, so I deleted it.

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

How did you manage to create a like button without setting up a page?
That button must be linking to someone's facebook page otherwise the likes wouldn't show up, and unless its yours, They are gone.

im pretty sure you will lose the "likes" you have. there is likes for a fan page and likes for a website if the button if on the site. you will have to create a fan page and then link it to your site. might connect automatically but i dont think so...

tamiro1992 is right, unfortunately the "likes" you get for your website and the likes you get for a fan page cannot be reconciled.
The only solution is to reach out to your website users/fans and ask them to like your new Fan page once it's up.
Also put a link to your fan page on your site, or better yet, add a plugin to like the fan page directly.

Oh, sad. :( I was afraid I would have to give up my current "likes," I was just hoping there would be another solution. Thank you very much to all who have commented.

PsyHost, I don't know how I managed it. i ended up with code to put on my site, but there's no fan page. If there's a way to botch up instructions I usually find it.... The truth is, I found the process confusing on Facebook. The questions they ask are not intuitive. My website is a coloring page site. It's neither a physical location or a business or a brand, really, so I wasn't sure what to pick. It isn't clear when you're making decisions that you might not get a fan page if you select the wrong thing. I'm guessing that I must have chosen the wrong option. I'll try to find some instructions when I try next time.

had a similiar problem and had to try a trick that somewhat worked

create a new fan page with similiar/identical credentials (including the picture) and put it in the likes tab of the existing page
that solved it for me, half of my likes transfered
