    If you have an online business selling specific items lets say... "dog houses" should you create a fan page for dog houses or a group for people that like dog houses? or use the name of the store?

    Pros and Cons would be nice for the discussion :)

    People prefer "liking" fan pages rather then joining groups... so if you're after numbers, then fan pages... but if you're after people going to your page everyday, then group. People in groups seem to be more dedicated.

    Facebook fan pages will be my choice. You can include links to your fan page wherever possible. And you can use it to boost your search engine optimization.

    There are limitations with groups(message to all not allowed to 5k+ members), but are good for email marketing like campaigns, Pages are good for Viral promotions, plus you get more members(but not as effective as an email ! )

    I think first of all you can create a facebbook fan page for your product and services.This will be great for your product. A group is for general discussion only know & we cant promote our product more.

    I used both but I preferred to use Facebook Group.. You can email your members but in fanpage you can't..

    Unlike groups, fan pages are visible to unregistered people and are thus indexed (important for reputation management, for example);
    Unlike pages, groups allow to send out “bulk invite” (you can easily invite all your friends to join the group while with pages you will be forced to drop some invites manually). Groups are thus better for viral marketing, meaning that any group member can also send bulk invites to the friends of his.

    So I would conclude that :
    Pages are generally better for a long-term relationships with your fans, readers or customers;
    Groups are generally better for hosting a (quick) active discussion and attracting quick attention.

    Facebook Fan page is great for long term purposes. You can also personalize the look of you page using different html codes to look more enticing to your contacts.
