The buzz word for marketers at the moment seems to be Facebook. Facebook fan pages, groups the advertising platform are all hot right now. While I expect there'll be great opportunities in Facebook for a long time, it is certainly something that is beginning to mature a little, just like Twitter marketing has, Digg marketing did etc. It's more likely to get more difficult from here on out than easier as competition rises. The smart early birds were exploring Facebook a couple of years ago. So where's the next new emerging marketing opportunity? Is it in cell phones? Is it location based foursquare type stuff? Is it advertising through online music sites like last.fm and spotify? Is it in-video pre-roll/post-roll ads? Facebook Fan Page Frenzy - But What's Next?
Yes Chris, I have to agree with you. Having a Facebook Business Page/ Custom Landing Page/ Custom Tab, etc... is definitely all the rage for the moment. But the scary thing is Facebook keeps changing the rules, and I even heard they might discontinue FBML programming. This would definitely keep people on their toes. Regarding the new emerging marketing opportunity, I'm definitely leaning towards mobile based technologies/ apps/ softwares that help you manage your mobile better, etc... And also geo-location technologies like Foursquare. Advancements and investments in these areas is only just beginning.
People have already being doing mobile marketing for a couple of years pretty successfully, so even that is not entirely new.
I think it will be in cell phones. The mobile market is growing like crazy, ANDROID is expected to be a $10 Billion dollar business alone in a couple years! Thats half of all of Google's revenue today!
Android is certainly an interesting growth area - I wonder how it applies to marketers other than Android apps? I guess there could be plenty of room to promote your brand through an Android app similar to what many have done with the iPhone, other than that I'm not sure.
