Has anyone heard about the facebook dislike button yet? and if so, do you know when that will be coming out?
it's on the way soon, they are just running a few more tests. It has caused quite a stire as some are saying it will affect fragile people and be used for negative impact of businesses. The jury's out as if it will be any good, but it is just another data gathering button for facebook as they can use them the same way as they sell other data for like buttons etc
I agree with you...I think the dislike button will add to the turmoil of facebook and lower more self esteem for some. I not being on of those people but for the ones that do have low self esteem as it is, it will be a lot harder for them. Is that why facebook went down the other day?
i don't know about why it went down but i fear people with anorexia might push them over the edge and people with emotional problems that post a loss of a loved one for example, people will dislike just dislike for trolling reasons. Facebook have said they will be monitoring it to make sure it isn't being misused by people, those that do will get banned.
If you are too fragile to handle a dislike (and we all are, from time to time) then you shouldn't post in the public part of facebook. Limit yourself to your own wall, and have privacy set so only friends can see your posts. If you have "friends" who can cause you harm then seriously reconsider your criteria for friendship. I see the biggest use of the dislike button being for things like "We got burgled, here's the CCTV, do you know them?" type of post where you want to express your dislike of the circumstances that led to the post, rather than the post itself.
I have been hearing about it, but really thought nothing of it. Reddit has a down vote button so I am used to the like/dislike environment already. Now that you pointed out the self-esteem issue, it does make sense since Facebook can be personal for some. I agree though, if a friend is down voting a post, that person should no longer be considered a friend. This may clean up some accounts though and people may stop adding people to their friend’s list that they don’t actually know.
wow both of you ladies have great points. Yes I am used to reddit as well. I report a lot to fb for all the spam of the not so nice variety. so is it going to be like that or is the report tool still going to trump.
well facebook monitors everything as you know, they are data miners nothing more. They did say they will have procedures in place to watch activity, as they can make money out of the dislike button as they do out of the like button it will be heavily monitored
Facebook are not going to have a "dislike" button; read what Facebook actually said rather than the spin on what people think they said.
BUT, its NOT a dislike button ... it is more of an "empathy" like button. eg for use when someone passes away -- a lot of people do not feel comfortable useing the 'like' button in those sitations. Read what Zuckerberg actually said: http://mashable.com/2015/09/16/dislike-button-mark-zuckerberg/#TZIY7ZgYqEqH
Precisely how I see a dislike button, I never saw his explanation as a vote up or vote down, more as a (emotional) response to what has been posted.
Getting angry is not the way to hold a debate, sure all sorts of rumours are circulating about this issue and no doubt debates will go on for a while as to how this might work in the real world, using one site as a basis for an argument maybe just isn't the way to go. This is what is being said on the BBC in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-34264624
Nope. Please show us anywhere where Zuckerberg actually said that Facebook is getting a dislike button. Did you not notice that what the BBC said was not actually a quote from Zuckerberg. It was symptomatic of what the Mashable article I linked above about the media hysteria about it and you too have fallen for it. That ONE site actually had the video of Zuckerberg speaking and what he actually said. There is no debate. He said what he said and he did not anywhere say that Facebook is getting a dislike button.
Facebook announced the dislike button officially. The problem now is with the engagement. I think the engagement of a post will decrease if the dislike button is pressed. So bad news for internet marketers
Read this thread above. Zuckerberg did not say that. Listen to his press conference - he did not say that. Do you always post in threads without reading them first.?
