I hate facebook. It's very very stupid social network in my opinion :D
No privacy, stupid groups, ecc. but over 100 million of people are registered to facebook and uses it. Now also I use it... but only for business :D

    Maybe stupid question :
In your opinion, what are the strategies that facebook have used to promote itself ? :D

nothing? Just go to some sites, told what a social networking site can do, and got few members. Those members loved the site very much and brought more members. and so on.

Anyways, which came first? Orkut or Facebook? lol

Please explain to me why there is no privacy? You have the option of accepting friends, being involved in groups.

No one is forcing you to put pictures of you up there or reveal your life story.....

In terms of marketing they had radio, and all other media outlets on their side whilst providing a service that is loved by millions.

I know starting out, the exclusivity of Facebook led to its quick growth; at the time, only a few specific schools could be on the site. So they only had to promote to people at those schools, which I would assume made marketing very easy starting out.

I registered to facebook only because I received 50 email from people that I don't know

Privacy isn't a default option and people always forget to set. And then privacy is a new option that before there isn't.

So there are people that agree with me :D

Facebook is grown up only for spam and stupid groups

p.s. Excuse me for my poor english :p
p.p.s. I don't want to insult anyone that use facebook. Now also I use facebook for business :)

maybe i am doing something wrong? i don't get bombarded with spam from facebook? plus facebook allows you to control your privacy, so i am not sure what you are referring to saying there isn't any privacy?

now if you were talking about spam and mentioned myspace....then you might be on to something;)

Since you have to use ur real name to register does seem there is a lack of privacy, as its not usually a good idea to give ur full name out on the net !

my issue with FB is the fact that employers check up employees on it and the government use it to spy on people (this is proven not a silly conspiracy theory)

I personally find it great as I can contact cousins and overseas friends easily :)

I got projects from private groups, but none from open group. But it's not easy to get invitation from the admin/creator :p

Like any other large site, they started out doing advertising (it's the only way to get really big).

Word of mouth soon took over.

you + ignorance = why it isn't preforming like you want it :D

You have to educate yourself on how to use social networks, I just started putting together a list of feeds that I would suggest checking out. It's at Alltop last night, you might take a look at it.
