It looks like facebook launched an ad system similar to AdSense. Any thoughts on this?

I think it is more similar to Google AdWords. Google AdSense is publisher system which allows you to show Google Ads on you website.

It looks like Facebook starts selling ads. It is quite logical move, because they have tons of visitors but no way how to earn money from them.

Depends on your website. If you target right, ROI can be great.

The cool thing about Facebook, is that on some group sites you can add a link. Find groups relavent to the affiliate produces you are marketing and add there.

Some of the application pages have just become affiliate-link-dumps. It's so spammy and nasty they're going to have to do something to clean it up.

The social ads have been going for ages on Facebook. I've tried them the roi is a bit *wavy hand gesture* - not terribly good. But the worse thing about them is the arbitrary way they treat paying customers - they have some of the worst customer service I have ever come across - and this comes from an experienced adwords user.

I tried it and they rejected my ad (I was willing to pay $100 too) simply because they found the word "Nub" offensive.

i've gotta agree with you there. i tried to cancel a campaign, but it carried on running even though i emailed them to stop as the site had "technical difficulties". i had to send a screenshot of the error until they decided i wasnt lying...

Having spent $300 on this, I can tell you it is still not very useful. Wait until they improve it before trying it out.

yeh, remember most people are young (under 21 i'd guess) so generally don't have the money to buy any products. if its a fun site/free site you may have a bit more luck

Hello, new member here delurking to throw in my two cents.

ON facebook, they advertised free advertising. I have a website that I wanted to advertise so I jumped at the chance for free advertising. Who wouldn't? But ... it isn't free at all. I don't think it was ALL that expensive but to advertise something as being free and then asking for money is a little mis-leading IMO. So I didn't go for it.

    Thats my 2 cents.

Actually I'd suspect Facebook has an older demographic than myspace, and certainly older than bebo - plus you can target by age, so I don't think that's the issue. I just don't think people go on facebook to read the ads, added to which the format allowed by facebook is extremely inflexible.

i hear people saying that facebook increased rates to get rid of affiliate marketers and now it grow so expensive that its not profitable to advertise on it.

I would have to say that these ads are only for directly targeting an audience related to a virtual product. It is really hard to makret a physical product with these ads. I tried them for a couple of months but they were not converting much, they were really cheap, but the quality wasn't that great for my type of niche. Who know's, maybe it will work better for you though :)

Seems like selling ads across facebook is a logical step for them.
