    Hi,

Today I've received the same mail as SOULZRIPPER.

When I've seen $100k penalties, I've immediately deleted domains using "facebook". But there are thousands of domains using that word in it. Will they pursue them all who wont delete it?

They would likely make example of a few and then use it to warn others.

I completely agree. The people saying "don't worry about it - your domain has a hyphen between "face" and "book" so it's okay" are complete idiots.

Wow some strong words from you guys. Well it's not about me ditching the domain. Maybe the cost is <1$ but still it's my money. And those lame people whoever sent the mail are idiots. Because the mail landed in the spam folder first of all. And when I tried to reply back it gave me an error that the email address don't exist !

Why the heck should I bother if the system is stupid ?

Insert standard "I'm not an attorney nor am I giving leagl advice." clause here.

The advice we have from my attorney is to go ahead and do whatever they request as long as it's legit. But don't answer the email. That way you don't admit to anything.

*shrug* We get 4 or 5 C&Ds a month. Most of them are not legit to be honest. Had one a few days ago complaining about copyright but it was rather obvious (Without going into details) the sending site was the one doing the copying. That one got sent back to their host with a little note pointing things out to them. The other site is no longer online.

The few that we've had to act on, that's as far as it's gone.

It's spam. Facebook doesn't own the trademark "face-book" they own "facebook" and if you mention on the home page "We are not related to Facebookâ„¢ in any way", you won't be held legally liable for running a proxy under that name.

Make stupid posts on another forum. You have absolutely no clue about trademark law.

Is it really necessary to insult my intelligence based on a simple legal opinion?

Yes. Because your legal opinion is completely, totally and utterly wrong.

Don't give advice if you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

He commented on a post not on you. But if you are linking your intelligence to that opinion, then yes, the shoe appears to fit. This is not the guessing section of the forum. If you don't know the answer to something then don't just post a guess.

As for what you did post, as "advice" it is dead wrong. There is no way you can tell someone that they wont be held liable for something, let alone something that is a pretty blatant trademark violation.

Oh well I can only assume that the organization which sent me the mail is run by a bunch of morons. Come on it's a threat mail and it landed in spam. And the reply back email doesn't exist lol..

If they even persuade me and take me to a court I would just laugh at those silly moronic people :p

http://www.facebookproxy.net/ this site is just seems to be fine. It was just an automated mail sent to people like us ;)

I really hope you get sued by Facebook. You're clearly an idiot who has no idea about intellectual property law or domain names in general.

Oh sure thanx. I'll mention your remarks on my twitter so you get a little fame as well ;)

An organization like that should know how their system work. If it's fluke like them people like me wouldn't give a damn. Tell me, should I persuade them and tell them I am sorry for registering that domain when their reply back email doesn't work !!!

    1. You can make all the stink about the email going to your SPAM, but since you read it and have posted about it here it is a moot point. You have actual notice of their complaint.

    2. Second, it looks like someone made a typo with the email address. It is likely just an extra character. enforcementi@facebook.com. Looks to me like you could probably figure out the address if you wanted. Nah, better to bitch and complain on DP and pretend you are not using a trademarked term.

    3. Regardless of the notice, or spam, or email address, the simple point is that you are clearly and purposely trading on their trademark. You have no defense to that other than to make lame excuses why it should not apply to you.
