Hey all designers, I think we should have a list of bad contest holders, to consider to join their contests in future or not? How about this?

 

Yeah but lets see what he does in the next couple days. He could let us know whats going on instead of leaving us wondering. I don't see why we are waiting for pictures. The designs are done and pictures could be added last.

 

I'm sure the client will follow through some time. Like he said they are busy and you can't always rely on a client to follow through with a project

 

Just funny that the contest was so "Urgent" and now it doesn't even seem to matter anymore. Ah whatever.

 

You know how clients are sometimes....They need it now and then they don't lol

 

Michael, you seem a nice guy. But what if he just used us for inspiration and then made his own design ? If your assumtions were true, he could simply apologize for wasting our time, but instead he said nothing.

 

Best to move from this forum to some better contest sites. This site is just cheap and designers are used and payed like s**t fir their hard work. Or in this case, nothing at all.

Possibly. It would be very unfortunate to the person that would use people like us to get ideas for his own projects. It will catch up on someone who does that.

 

Figured I'd come back and put the thoughts at ease for everyone. No, I didn't come here for inspiration. My design skills are shit. The client was a moving company. When they contacted me, they required it done asap before their "time of the year" started. That deadline was never met because of their poor response timing, and therefore they got "busy". Since then, I have not even heard from them. All of my voicemails, calls, and texts go unanswered. I am sorry that I have put you guys through this, but unfortunately there is nothing I could do.

 

If it was me I'd still go forward with the contest since they have put so much time into there entry. Sometimes the right thing to do comes at a price but if you don't then it makes me look bad.

 

In that case how would I pick the design? How is it fair to pick one person over another when everyone put time into the contest? Some of the members that put time into here I know and have done work with before, so I could be biased and pick them, and that wouldn't be fair.

 

then split the prize between the top 3 or top 5, or even top 10 entrants..... its one thing for contestants to compete with another, its another thing entirely, when the contest is cancelled without any fault of their own. Its like, anyone can create a false comp tomorrow, make everyone work hard, for no reward. If payment for the comp is not guaranteed, then you need to hire people privately (cash in advance) and not run comps.

I know it sucks when clients cancel projects, however, legally you can still pursue them for all costs and expenses, even compensation for your time, even if the project is never 100% finished. You simply bundle up every file, send it to them along with the invoice for all the expenses up to the point the project was cancelled.
Trust me, I have seen some massive projects cancelled (think $xxx,xxx), and while it might be cancelled, if work has been started, I have seen them be forced to pay for all expenses invested in the project.
