the product pages of our site, for example this page, seem to be auto-generating a META DESCRIPTION that contains the entire 3 paragraphs of content of our Product Summary fields. this is a WordPress shopping cart plugin. the product editor pages have no place to manually enter a META DESCRIPTION so somehow it gets auto-generated. should we be concerned that this is too much content to slap into a META DESCRIPTION? don't search engines only want this to be about 2 sentences long? please advise. thanks in advance.
It's OK, however the information will be cut since just a couple of sentences are allowed to show as meta description.
Are you using Wordpress? If so, search and install the "SEO Ultimate" plugin..once enabled, go back to your pages and look below the content box. You should see settings now which will let you specify the Title and Meta Description. Hope this helps because currently those descriptions are way too long!
I am almost sure this is a PLUGIN that did this.. For example Yoast gives you an option to choose the Meta Description!
Three paragraphs is WAY too much for this tag!! At best, the contents should be no longer than a simple sentence. I think 160 characters is the recommended limit.
i have a wordpress shopping cart plugin called Shopp that does not allow for a META DESCRIPTION field in the product editor, despite having other SEO plugins activated. so again, my question is not "what plugins are out there"? i'm concerned with "will the length of my current description raise any red flags?" thanks.
