Extra hits from bad spelling SEO question

    Hi,
Very recently I was looking for some items on ebay and I was using fatfingers.com to find all the items that were spelled incorrectly. fat fingers works out all the possible ways to spell a word wrong.

I had a small brainwave and typed in one of the major keywords for one of my sites, which gave me about 50 different (and wrong ways) to spell my keyword. Using the keyword suggestion tool here (which is great, thank you) I noticed that some were getting over 100 searches a day with low competition, well worth targeting I thought. But how to go about it

Stuff my meta keywords with the misplellings even though they don't appear in my site content.

    or

Create an alternative version of my actual page copy but replace the correct spelling with the bad one and then with java script refresh back to the correct page.

Will these get me kicked down with google, or is this how one could get those users that search incorrectly?

I will implement any ideas and give feedback!

    regards

    Misspellings really are great.

IMO its best to create a new page for the misspellings, but this is not possible all the time and could be concitered spam by the SE's. I use the meta tags and also on your page make a part where you list possible misspellings of the keywords, for informational purposes. This way it is useful info, and not as spamy.

I would try the META keywords first. That seems like the safest way to start. If you dont see results after, say, a month. I would try creating new pages with the mespelled word.

I've heard of some guys starting off a page this way for example:

We're you looking for (correctly spelled keyword) rather than (mispelled keyword) blah, blah, blah.....

They do it much the same way google returns results on an incorrectly spelled word, wth the correctly spelled word before the listings.

I would use misspelling on keywords and image alt tags. Usually 2-3 keywords per tag works.

I'd just spell the word wrong 2-3 times on the page and right on all the other spots.

    Massive Massive Mistake!

I copied my home page did a search and replace for the mis spelled word then linked to the new page from an interface image on my actual home page. I have lost total ranking from the keyword in two day on google. The link checker here at DP shows a drop over over 9000 basically out of the index.
Don't try this one at home kids!

I was wondering why some 'marketing gurus' often cannot seem to spell even simple words correctly.

one easy trick is to make it look like you have a script that's checking how people are searching. for example, put something like "common misspellings leading to this page: [insret misssspellings her]"

works for me, and i would guess it avoids a penalty and doesn't make u look stupid ;)
