Extra hidden blog

    Hi all,

I want to add a blog to my website so that google can see it being updated. However, I can only find things to write about that I would want to post up on the site every so often.

Is it possible to create a second hidden blog (without a link to it from the main website) but which is somehow still linked to the website and which I could update everyday?

Or is it necessary to have a visible link to the blog from the main website?

    Thanks.

Why do you want a second hidden blog?

What do you mean by hidden here, hidden from search engines or visitors or both?

    I meant hidden from visitors.

I read that if you have a blog which you update regularly then google is more likely to rank your website higher, I think I will only be able to think of things to write maybe 2 times a week though.

So I thought if I had a second blog (hidden from visitors) which I update everyday with articles put together very quickly then it might help me achieve a better ranking.

Posting on your blog twice per week is just fine. Putting up garbage content on another blog on that domain is not going to help you rank at all. And if any of the "garbage" starts to rank for some long tail phrase, when people click on the link in the SERPs and find "garbage" they are likely going to backbutton back to Google and click on a different link. It's a bad user experience.

The only thing that updating your site often does is to make the search engines crawl your site more often. It does NOT affect how your pages rank. It just helps to get your new content in the index faster.

And by "updating your site often" this does NOT necessarily mean changing content on existing pages. In fact I would suggest you avoid doing this ESPECIALLY if the page already ranks well for particular targeted keyword phrases. Doing so will frequently "hurt" your rankings, not help them. If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Instead, update your site by adding NEW pages. Each new page you add gives the search engines more content to index (which is what they like), gives you another chance to rank for a different keyword phrase since you get a whole new set of on-page SEO factors to play with (<title>, <h1>, <h2>s, content, etc.)

gogole don't like hidden text or links. I suggest to add some news feeds to taken from other news sites by that you'll get fresh content.

I agree with Canonical. You might as well put your resources into something of value which google and visitors will appreciate. Putting up a blog with no followers and no real backlinks which points to your site is almost useless.

A better approach would be to create a couple of articles on Hubpages or Squidoo. You can do a search for "seo squidoo" to get the idea.

The Squidoo idea is good - don't bother with Hubpages - too many stupid rules. You can quickly create a few niche Squidoos cover niche areas of your main site and point them to your website

Don't say that it as hidden blog. Just, you are not linking from your home page.

You can create a blog without linking from your home page. You must have to link from at least one page from your site, like from sitemap.

It is not a bad idea. It helps to crawl regularly of your fresh blogposts. But, it can't improve the keyword position of your site and crawling frequency of your site. But, if your 2nd blog have good stuff then it may come into serp for its keywords. Give a link from your blog to home page. No need to link from your home page to 2nd blog.

    All the best...
