External link age - when they start to count

I have a theory that it takes 3 - 4 months for a link to come of age and that this protects the algorithm from being manipulated. I have no proof of this though.

Does anyone know of a recent experiment or does anyone else have an opinion.

That's what I a seeing. When doing competitor research in the 'debt' marketplace, big jumps for some brands have been noted. When you do some digging amongst Yahoo links you see that these posts are from April.

I have seen the same myself a few times, 90 - 120 days and the kettle has boiled and the links are hot.

Open to any other link learning and opinions - you just can't know enough.
