My external drive is not working suddenly.

Everything was fine till yesterday evening..At night, I heard scratching noise, so I unplugged it.

I connected today morning but it's not working. It's not getting detected on my computer.

I took some steps, changed wires, no luck.

I removed external casing and plugged the drive internally..Still same.

Just scratching sound for few seconds and nothing else.

Device manager listed my drive as "ST_M13FQBL (3.9GB)" instead of 3TB

    It's throwing me a choice:

    Initialize the drive:

I used HD sentinel to check, it's showing same.

Under information tab: I see "2" yellow (warning, I guess?)..

    ATA control byte - Invalid
    ATA checksum value - Invalid

I just plugged my drive internally, I didn't do or touch jumper part.

Any help will be appreciated, I really want the data.

    Thank you.

i think its a factory damage or somewhat there was a sudden power surge in your place then its connected so theres a chances of it might have short circuit inside the hdd. if it still under warranty then you can return it to the store you buy for exchange but if it old hdd then we cant do nothing its a broken item now and cant be fix

Scratching is usually the head touching the platter. That means the drive is toast.

The head flies (due to the fluid dynamics of the air in the sealed chamber) a few microns above the platter normally. If it touches the platter during operation it damages the coating and the platter is useless at that point. If it's your directory or any part of the disk used in maintenance, the partition is useless. One touch for a fraction of a second can do the damage, and there's no way to fix it.

The solution of this problem i think is open your CPU casing than free hard drive from cables that attached with hard drive after doing that again attach cables with the hard. Now you start your PC and check if the problem is fix or not otherwise you need new windows installation on chance ......
