External domain resolves to localhost, running Apache on Win XP

    Hello,

When I type "www.amstdwalkinbaths.com" in my browser, and I'm running Apache on my desktop at home (Win XP), the index.html file from my htdocs folder is displayed and the URL in the browser is http://www.amstdwalkinbaths.com.

When I turn off Apache, I get a "site not found" error. The site in fact does not exist as I checked with other users (though the domain is registered and there is an email address using it).

The behaviour is the same with Firefox, IE, and Chrome, and with a different PC at work (also Win XP desktop running Apache, which I use as a dev server).

I flipped today at work and thought someone had scraped our site when it first happened!

Has anyone come across this? Is there a fix?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

yes this is a normal way, or sometimes a joke,
when someone sets a site offline the DNS-way.
    simply pointing the domain 127.0.0.1

i know a few more such domains

    like

    http://localmongo.43.gs
    http://warezhangout.com

they also point to localhost / 127.0.0.1
