I have a forum that has been down the last few months and has just been fixed (yesterday). Do you think it will have completely lost its ranking and index in google? If so how long would it take to recover, or will it be just like a new site?

check whether all pages indexing or not

    go to google and type
    site:url name
    linkto: url name
Mean while google index or not
    cache:url name

    summed up all analysis records.

You can loose your rank if your site is continuously down. At the same time, you regain your rank when your site comes back again.

A few months is too much... you may loose many pages from Google index.

It is not a good thing to have your website offline for that long. The bots would have been there several times without findin it. But, it should come back soon!
