Explain sitemap to a bigginer

    Hey i am new to site maps and so on. I wanted to know how to create it and what is it used for. I've seen some site maps before and it is just links to pages and ive heard they are made to improve seo

    From my point of view, a sitemap is just a summary of links in your website. Some programs like xsite pro will build its own sitemap but software like dreamweaver don't. A sitemap will have nothing to do for your site to become indexed rapidly, or increase its pagerank, in fact I seldom use sitemap to roam around a website so I guess, it's pretty useless on your visitors too. But sitemap merits to the spiders (such as google) to navigate around your site. Sitemap is pretty useful if your site has a lot of pages to be crawled.

    One thing, you don't create sitemap by hand. You use a program such as sitemap builder by coffeecup. I suppose there are lots of free software out there to build one, just a matter of finding out. For me, I'm an xsite pro fanatic, so building a sitemap is a breeze.

    google it and take everything and you will get many sites who will generate site map for you

    No sitemaps help u get indexed fast and keeps the search engines informed of all the pages on your site.So even if a search engines miss out a page ur sitemap will get it indexed.Also it can be useful for visitors to have look at your whole site.

    Dont forget to add your sitemap in your google webmaster account
