Expiring tomorrow - how to buy expiring domains?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by urbt, May 26, 2008.

I have found several domains expiring tomorrow that really interest me. They also happen to have PR2 and PR1. However I am worried they will just be snapped up and parked by domain entrepreneurs. Is there any way I can register them without paying a backorder fee or anything? What time should I be on (BST ie GMT+1) in order to get them?

Or am I just blowing this out of proportion? Will I be able to just pick them up without worrying? Any answers would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

The owners have 70 days after the deadline to re-order.

redoxide is right - there may be a wait. But to answer the point of your question, it really depends. If they are a niche that interests you, but isn't a widespread interest, then maybe they won't get scooped. I have had a tiny bit of success doing that with some solar energy domains.

However, there are tons of domainers with deep pockets that pour over those same lists and are willing to pay the $60 or whatever to get them at Snap or Pool. So, if its worth more than $60, even in a small niche, someone's going to notice it.

Well depend on the registrar period of grace and deletion. The first may take up to 30 days before being queued for deletion, then another 45 to 6o days, which is a waiting time of about 3 months.

Backorders range from $18 to $80 and above. Domainers can renew their domains during the deletion queue at around $80 too.

In my own experience, if the expiring domain is pretty good or one of the most sought-after, you can experience a sort of "last-minute bid" in which you will find other real or imaginary people bidding for the same name and you will be forced to increase your own bid in order to get it.

We have rescued valuable domains by waiting for the exact deletion day, which often occurs about midnight that day (GMT) but names themselves are released until the following noon.... if everything fails you can bribe the new owner for a price, LOL, at least we did it about a year ago with a precious-gem we lost :)

The day it expires is not the same as the day the domains will be deleted, as the posters above me have mentioned. I have found the most reliable way to pick up expired domains is to use a service, such as domainannounce.com, to track them the second they will drop.

Alternately, if you really, really want to be sure to get it, use snapnames.com, but you will need to start bidding at $60 and it can go up & up from there if someone else is interested in the same name. A big benefit is that each domain will retain its age.

Good luck keeping track and picking these up!

The domains were on a list for expiry yesterday on odditysoftware.com, and were 'PENDING DELETE SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE'. However other domains on that list have been bought up but the ones I am looking at are still 'PENDING DELETE SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE'. Is that just a mistake in the list? I am trying to snap them up myself, hoping there will be little interest.
