Expired Domains - Any Good?

If you get an aged domain name (like 3 years) that expired and has been inactive(dropped) for some months and does not have any back links to it...can you gain Google trust and rank by building a totally new site and actively promote it by actively building back-links to it?

This is a common misconception, as soon as a domain is dropped it seems to lost any pagerank and link backs, though Google will not reflect the update until after a month or so after the expiration date.

You can only keep backlinks and pagerank for sure if you backorder it, apart of keep the original registration date.

What do you mean lose backlinks ?

Wouldnt the backlinks remain aiming towards a site if the person sending them leaves them active?

Another question is whether the PR juice is still being sent.

when you are buying a OLD or expired domain always look for the backlinks

    Then decide about buying it

if you are going to buy a PR4 domain with 0 backlinks

then you domain will probably lose PR by next update...

True said. Pagerank means nothing if you cannot keep the links, an expired domains probably means a lot of links have been lost and the next google update would bring it back to normal ~ as I try to clarify unless you are really good in that field and you are going to develop that expired domain for good.

i think that depents on the inactive period long. if it's more than 6 months, it's a new domain

I registered an expired domain name with a handful of backlinks. It was quite easy to get it ranked and it shows its a 10 yr old site when I have only had it for 3 years. I don't know much about all of it but I continue to keep an eye out for expired domain names I want to purchase. If I find one I can work with, I'd rather do that than start with a brand new one.

Depending on when you purchase it, the domain can lose its age, but I check out the back links to see if they are reciprocal and will disappear or permanent, and I don't have to worry about losing them.

The sites with permanent back links, also cost an arm and a leg:(
