Say a domain has expired on the 24th May 2009, when should it be available for re-purchase? or should I ask when would potentially the latest date it could be available for purchase?

I think it takes 72 days to go through the whole deletion process.
But if it's a good name you might want to backorder it or a dropcatcher may get it first.

Regardless of ICann and verisign rules I swear this is almost different at every registrar.

Putting the snap back on it never hurts...

    godaddy do a backorder service
it costs $18 or something for a .com
unsure if this includes the fee of the actual buying of the domain (they charge $8 ish for .com's)

they basically will keep looking for any changes in registry data of the domain, if it becomes available they will buy it for you.

however i think they were not as fast as the person who got it instead of me, we are probably talking a difference of minutes
