I am new to building links using expired domains. I am trying to follow tutorials on the web and using various sites and tools to find authoritative expired domains for building links for my blog network. Firstly, my main site is a niche site i.e "astrology" and I am confused whether i should find expired domains in "astrology" or related niches or should i focus only on getting a highly authoritative domain (in any category/niche) and then use niche astrology contents to fill it. Secondly, I am finding it hard to get niche relevant authority sites for a decent price. Can someone help me what approach to follow? My other concern is suppose i find an authority site say for e.g in a health niche and buy that to build links, even though my contents put in this bought domain is "astrology" , google can easily identify that and may devalue my link authority..
Technically you should go for astrology domains as their backlinks 'should' be related - remember to always check. However you can go broader, for example perhaps space exploration or maybe horoscopes. You are quite right, if google looks into your site and they are not relevant you may find yourself in trouble although you will see a benefit if you did build a link from the authority site. If you check out http://www.domainsnoop.com you can use their defined searches so that you are emailed when an astrology niche domain expires.
Thanks adimond for the reply..I just evaluated a few tools..PR Powershot, Freshdrop etc..They are all okay..but not worth the money esp PR Powershot...Let me try domainsnoop now..
You and Adimond are both correct with your criteria for the best expired domains. You need to remember however that the closer you stick to this criteria (which is best) then the harder and longer it will be to find them.
If the domain is expired though; couldn't you make the website be about what you wanted? So say you bought an expired pr3 domain: chairs.com. When you hosted and set up the site you could call the site "leather jacket world" and add content relevant to leather jackets and bingo - you have a site relevant to leather jackets even though the domain name isn't. This means that it's less hard to find "relevant" expired domains as you make them more relevant by how you set them up.
If you are buying expiring domain name from Godaddy Auctions, these domain names retain domain age so this is really good thing instead of having pr, keyword, you would get benefit of domain age too.
Yes you can but think of the backlinks that are linking into that site. The content may be relevant but the backlinks pointing to that content will not. You will get link juice, don't get me wrong, it is only once it is looked into manually or their software improves that it will be a problem. Remember Tier 2 and Tier 3 links should be relevant.
Yep - agreed. Can I ask people's thoughts on how relevant is relevant? So say for example my site is about baseball. Would a general sport site be relevant? How about a general "activity" site? Baseball may not be the best example so say my site is on hats. Would "clothing" backlinks be relevant? "Fashion" backlinks? "Wedding" backlinks? Thanks
