I am interested in the same thing. I've heard about it, but not sure where and how to go about "tasting" it.
IMHO, dynadot is the best for this, you can cancel the domain and get 100% credit back to your account. so in a way it is free, because you get all your money back. in a way it is not free, because it only goes back to your account.
See Pool.com's "Catch & Release" program, which I believe just recently started. 10-20 cents per domain, depending on how much you've got in your account balance.
