Blogs have no special value over static websites; believe it or not many people think they do! Actually, blogs usually get good rankings due to the massive amounts of new content they provide, however static websites that provide the same amount of new useful content can be just as powerful if not more. Wordpress has it's own SEO issues out of the box, but nothing that can't be corrected.
