Experience with Adsense For Search

Im thinking of implementing 'Adsense for Search' into a couple of my sites.

Just wondered if anyone has any experience with it? And how best to implement it?

Do you put just a little search box at the bottom of every page, or create a proper 'search page' with content and the search box etc.

I have only implemented it on a site once before, my site had left menu panels then the main content on the right hand side. I then had a little "Search" box in that left hand panel.
It seemed to get very little use though, so its existence ended up being pretty short.

I think im goign to give it a try in a few different ways and run it for a couple of weeks to see how they go.

Worth a shot as its not like it costs!

Well that's not exactly true. If you read the fine print, they CAN charge you if your visitors run up a lot of searches but doesn't click on any ads. Most of the time they never charge you, because your visitors won't even come close to using their search engines too much, and even if they did charge you, they would just take the money off what you've earned through Adsense Search so far, and not out of your pocket. But technically, it isn't "cost free".

Its good but not as good as contextual adsense ads.
I usually implement inpage searches {since its available} and it helps in getting better CTR. :)

I have never had much fun with search, actually in the time I had it implemented on my site, I didn't earn a penny. Or a cent, even. Contextual ads are MUCH better earners. Although, I guess it is depends where you put it, or what site it is on.

I put it on top right side every page, it got quite many uses and about 3% CTR. I think big search box is better than a small box that look crammed, unless you modified the ads code to fit your site template ( which may be illegal to do).

And choose "Open results within my own site" to keep your visitor in your site.

I tried it a few times but no results. a few serahced now and then but nothing. I think this is because people are used on going directly to google.

I've implemented it into the game section of my website at www.freebunch.com,

out of 1000-1500 visitors a day i average 20 searches a day and about 10-25 cents per day :)
Been considering making my own search function and simply implementing the google ads into it. Might get better results..

shutzu: nice implementation, how do you make it open the search result page with your own menu still on top? for me it only opens the google search results and my logo that i could chose to add when making the adsense search for my site

UPDATE: I decided to implement the search into one of my sites.

The site is a UK dropship help site which has over 400 members. I have a list on the site of dropshippers, Ive put the search box below that so members can search for more dropshippers if they can't find what they want in the list.

After its first day it had 12 searchs, 2 clicked on sponsored Ads so a good start. Obviously only 1 day and could be just lucky but I think the way Ive implemented it that it should work well with my site.

    Thanks for the replys :)

The way it works best is if you link a keyword in your page with search results from your own search page. Reason: We are all lazy; we would rather click on a link than type. So if you do the job for them, they will click. For instance, you have a hundred pages about dating and you want people to be able to read more. See this post on Britney Spears and then at the bottom of the post notice the link for Britney Spears.

By doing so, you are not only pointing to people to more content but also doing the work for them. Money will come too.

It must be. Shawn implemented the same thing here. Do a search for anything in this forum, and then you'll see a link after it's done that also says "Perform same search with Google". I think the thing you can't do is modify the code and prepopulate the search area directly on the page.

I have made good a experience with Adsense for Search, the click rate is pretty high (20-30%)
