Hi All Just a suggestion for everyone, continous, massive investment does not necessarily lead to a return on that expenditure. Cheers
Nobody ever said it would be easy. All you truly do need is a passion and extreme perseverance to get through the good and bad times and weed out the crap talkers and cry babies, and you'll be fine. Rob
In the current climate of uncertainty I am having to be very wary how I spend time an money on my online activities, We have a titan under going change in out midst, until this giant shows its hand, now is a good time for me to,,,,,, Join the blogging brigade, stops me spending anymore cash that
i agree rob..just keep plowing ahead and work to make your sites great..whether they are directories or whatever
It warms my heart to have such understanding amongst us, fellow strivers in a changing landscape. Never the less, mes amies, passion for your endevours will not be enough set against the equal passion felt by the giant in our midst for the quality of its product. I am starting a detailed blog post about this, but, I honestly think that Perhaps now would be a good time to think carefully about the potential what ifs People here abouts tend to comment a lot on their promotional expenditure, what if the expenditure is rendered totally futile, the money is already spent, and will not yield a return,
Being an old fart in years, i have built many businesses and run many companies, I meet people everyday who are full of idea's and gonna do's. and what you write is correct by just spending money alone / investing does not mean return. This is true in any business venture not only online nor directories. as for expenditure i have an unlimited budget on this project and expect to invest many 10's' of thousands and possibly more, i will have and built what i want regardless of cost. Yes as you rightly say there is no guarantee of return, i know that up front and am prepared to dump the loss, but my research tells me it will be money well spent. Being only new in this game i do see a lot of new directories started each day by people who seemingly know little other than the wow effect of what may appear to be easy money, unfortunatley i see many of them falling over, this industry is turning as i plan to enter it and from what i can see the shake up is good, it's time for the boys to move aside and let the men take this industry to a whole new level.
I agree downunder, an sincerely hope you know what you're talking about. I came into this market with a hand coded directory, I had a very long term plan for the required outcomes,,,,,, Then I discovered Phpld, Phplb, and the "allure of Tool bar pagerank" Plus, the gadzillions of web directories these prime market drivers had spawned, Well my plans got shelved real fast , an just as I was getting in to the "swing" of the new reality, our friendly neighbourhood giant is no longer feeling tolerant towards its un expected , minature tenants dwelling in what it perceives to be its own cornfields Ahh well, back to the drawing board. Put bluntly, if your business plans do not involve or require TBPR smile
The older i get the more i realise i know less, I tend to steer clear of people who yell loudly that they know everything. I prefere to be humble and quiet while appreciating others and their idea's and help in a 2 way street, and this approach will be my intended path.
