what if you managed to get your site the number 1 ranking for a search term /word/ phrase on google that is being searched 2000 times per month according to overture, how many visitors would that give your site on average?

what if you are nr 5 instead of number one, how much less traffic would you think the site would get?

the overture count can be multiplied by 5 to get to google or so I have heard which means 10.000 monthly searches right?

but that doesnt mean that 10.000 people will actually visit your site does it? I mean I have checked the alexa stats for some sites that are nr 1 for search phrases with 2000 searches and some are like 4 mill alexa which means less than 500 visitors....

So you think if a search term is searched for 2000 times per month you are going to get 10,000 hits per day?

    Good luck with that.:)

I am number 1 for a term with 10,000 searches per month and it gets about 50 uniques per day.

but can you mention where did you come to know that there is 10,000 searches are done per month ?

as far as normal experience 1 st position will get some 30 to 35 % of the entire searches done per month which says you should get at least 4 to 5 K visitors per month .

or Your title and content of the page which is ranking for the keyword may not be attractive or not on subject the visitor is actually looking for

You can use overture to get the number of searches per month.

Even with your estimate of 4,000 to 5,000 visitors per month that would put the traffic at about 150 per day. My guess of 50 per day is a lot closer than bullzeyes 10,000 per day.

I second what mad said, about 50 sounds reasonable , but have seen more than one cases when the overture results were not accurate, you kind of need to learn how to read overture .

At no.5 you might don`t see any traffic from it IMO , unless its a keyword, where you don`t have any AdWords inventory. Position 5-6-7-8 are the worst on the front page .

i think you will get %5-8 of the search volume .

if your keyword is being search 2k times per month, you will get 50-160 visitors from that keyword

Someones math here is really blaak. If a search term has 2000 queries monthly in total, how could you expect 10k visitors a day?

2000 / 31 = roughly 65 a day, lets say your title sucks and they skip you and click the second result. Mad4 was right, if the overtour query results is exact, you won't be going more than 60-70 uniques a day.

yeah it would be about 50 a day.

I can't remember the exact stats but the #1 position will get on average somethign like 80% of the searches - but this can vary and it depends on things like:
    - yout title text - will this make people click
    - other listings on the page might be more attractive
    - lots of sponsored ads on the SERP would decrease clicks on natural search results.

If overture estimates 2000 searches per month, and assuming google's volume is 5 times higher. We now have 10.000 searches on google per month divided by 30 days in a month makes 333 searches per day. If you now make about 30% of that searches to your visitors, we can see a number at around 100.

So yes I'd say around 100 uniques per day is a reasonable number for ONE keyword on google. Still those are only assumptions.
