Expand/Collapse Menus (display:none) - SEO Friendly?

    I know the search engines hate it when people have hidden content using display:none in CSS, but how does this work with menus which use that technique to expand/collapse? Would Google penalize sites on accident from using display:none to make their menus be able to expand and collapse?
