Hi Folks, I have taken a huge beating in the last few months, I suspect it is caused by the huge numbers of links to my site from Wordpress footers. The thing that I don't get, is that I didn't receive a notice in my webmasters or analytics accounts, which I heard Google sends when they detect this as an issue. Do they always send that message when they detect a link issue? I have slowed down on the building of new links. Any insight or experienced advice would be appreciated Thank you
You won't always necessarily receive a message via Webmaster Tools (manual or otherwise) - although common. If you're genuinely worried about the Wordpress footer links you've amassed then you should consider using the Disavow tool to request exclusion of Google counting those links. WebDev
Thanks for your reply Web Dev, I have been considering the disavow tool, but wanted to first try to confirm that is the problem in the first place.
It's possible that it is the problem, since Google has now clearly said that those types of links should be nofollowed, but we can't really know without doing an analysis of your site and it's link profile. It's possible there's another issue that's causing the problem. If you have access to the footer links, though, it wouldn't be a bad idea to nofollow them. Kurt Steinbrueck OurChurch.Com
Thanks Kurt, I have hundreds of them so changes are a lot of work, but I think it will have to be done :-( as they of no value anymore and are potentially damaging.
